Questions
Questions people ask.
Plain answers about coming to Sapphire, what a stay is like, what it costs, and what happens after. If something isn't here, ask us. There are no silly questions.
Before you come
Who is Sapphire for?
People working through alcohol or drug dependence, behavioural addictions such as gambling, and the anxiety, depression, trauma and burnout that often sit underneath them. We look at what drives the substance or behaviour, not only the behaviour itself.
Sapphire is a private residential program, not a crisis service. If you're not sure it fits, the two-minute check can help you work out the right next step.
What if I need help right now?
If anyone is in immediate danger, call 000. For 24/7 support, call Lifeline on 13 11 14. For Queensland alcohol and drug support, call Adis on 1800 177 833.
Once you're safe, you can contact us and we'll talk about what comes next.
Do I need a referral from a GP?
You don't need one to talk to us. You can enquire yourself, or a family member, GP, case worker or lawyer can enquire for you. Whether a GP letter or medical summary is needed before admission is worked out during your assessment.
What if I need detox first?
Sapphire doesn't provide medical detox on site. If you need withdrawal management, it happens first, somewhere safe and supervised, and we can help you plan it. Signs it may be needed include shaking, sweating, vomiting, seizures, confusion or hallucinations when use stops. Please don't stop suddenly on your own. Talk to your GP or call Adis on 1800 177 833.
How does admission work?
It starts with a short call, about 15 minutes and no pressure. Then we learn your history and goals, check whether detox is needed first, and give you a written plan and quote. Once a room is confirmed, we arrange your arrival, including private pick-up from Gold Coast Airport.
How soon can I start?
The house takes up to six guests, so it depends on when a room is free and whether detox needs to happen first. We'll tell you plainly on the first call how soon a place is likely to be available.
Is Sapphire accredited?
Please ask us. We'll set out in writing which accreditation applies to the service and the professional registrations held by the clinical team, so you can check them before you commit.
When can I call?
Call us on (07) 2111 8100 or email assistance@sapphirerecovery.com.au. Our admissions line answers 7am to 10pm, 7 days. Outside those hours, leave your number and we call you back from 7am. If you need someone right now: 000 in an emergency, Lifeline 13 11 14 (24/7), Adis 1800 177 833 (24/7).
Is there an age range?
Ask us about the age range Sapphire can accept. If you are unsure, call us and we will tell you honestly whether Sapphire fits, and point you somewhere better if it doesn't.
Can I see the house before deciding?
You can walk through the rooms and grounds in our house tour today, in Sapphire's own photos. Ask when you call about visiting the house before an admission.
I live interstate. How do I get there?
A private car can meet you at Gold Coast Airport, about 25 minutes from the house, so flying in from interstate or regional Queensland is straightforward. Ask us about pick-up from Brisbane Airport.
Your stay
Where is Sapphire, and how many people stay?
A private residence in Reedy Creek on the Gold Coast, with a pool and spa, a fire-pit lawn, a cinema room and Sapphire's own horses. At most six guests share the house at any time, each in a private room, so you're always known by name.
What does a day look like?
Every plan is written for the person, but a day often runs like this: a gentle morning walk, yoga or breathwork, one-on-one and group therapy, lunch from our chef around one table, equine sessions, time for the spa or massage, and a short evening check-in by the fire. See a sample day.
What therapies do you use?
One-on-one and group sessions with psychologists and counsellors, using approaches such as CBT, schema therapy and family therapy, with trauma-informed care throughout. Alongside them: EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques, a gentle tapping method), yoga, equine therapy, massage and chef-prepared meals.
Is there a psychiatrist or doctor on the team?
Our clinical team includes psychologists and counsellors. If you need a psychiatrist, a GP or another specialist during your stay, we'll help arrange it. External specialist appointments and prescription medicines aren't included in the program price.
How long is a stay?
How long you stay is set with you, from a few weeks in the transition house to a full live-in program. A live-in stay runs seven days a week, and we review its length with you as you go. Programs for legal referrals typically run 30 to 90 days. The outpatient program is three full days a week for four weeks.
Is there a minimum stay?
Stay length is flexible. How long you stay is set with you, from a few weeks in the transition house to a full live-in program. Programs for legal referrals typically run 30 to 90 days, and the outpatient program runs three days a week for four weeks.
Can I leave if I want to?
Yes. Your stay is voluntary and you can leave whenever you choose. If you are thinking about it, talk to your counsellor first and we’ll help you plan the safest next step, including aftercare. Fees aren’t refunded if you change your mind or leave early. This doesn’t affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
Who prescribes my medication during a stay?
Your own GP or psychiatrist stays your prescriber, and we keep them involved. If you need a psychiatric review during your stay, we help arrange one. Bring prescribed medicines in their original packaging with a list. Prescription medicines aren't included in the program price.
Can I bring my phone?
Yes. You can bring your phone, laptop and chargers. How and when devices are used through the day is part of the house guidelines, and we'll go through them with you before you arrive.
Can people visit me?
Yes, with your agreement. You decide who visits, and the team helps choose a time that fits the program. Sunday is often the day that works. When you agree, family can also join family sessions, on site or by video. What Sunday visits look like. Ask us about set visiting hours.
What should I bring, and how do I get there?
Comfortable clothes for about a week (laundry is on site), walking shoes, swimwear, prescribed medicines in their original packaging with a list, and your ID, Medicare and any health fund card. A private car can meet you at Gold Coast Airport. Read the arrival guide.
Cost and funding
How much does it cost?
The live-in program is from $25,000 + GST. The outpatient program, three full days a week for four weeks, is from $15,000 + GST. The transition house is $15,000, GST included. Every plan is individual, and final pricing follows a consultation. Compare the programs.
What's included in a live-in stay?
Accommodation, all meals, individual and group therapy, holistic therapies, 24/7 on-site support and a written aftercare plan. Medical detox, prescription medicines, external specialist appointments and personal expenses are not included.
Will my private health fund cover it?
Usually not. Private health funds generally don't cover a stay at a non-hospital residential service like Sapphire. Cover differs between funds and policies, so ask your fund directly, and we can give you a written quote to show them.
Can I pay over time?
Yes. Sapphire partners with TLC for payment plans, so repayments can be spread over time. TLC sets its own rates, fees and approval criteria. Finance is also available. Try the repayment calculator.
Can I use my super?
You may be able to apply for early release of super on compassionate grounds. We give you a treatment plan and quote in writing, your medical practitioner supports the application, and Release My Super helps you apply. The ATO decides whether it's approved and when. There are tax implications, so get independent advice first.
Are there refunds?
We don’t offer refunds if you change your mind or leave early. This doesn’t affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Our services come with guarantees under that law that can’t be excluded, including that we provide them with due care and skill. Your written quote sets out the fees and terms before you commit.
Families
Will I get updates about my loved one?
Only if they choose to share. Through Sapphire Circle, families see nothing by default. Your loved one chooses who is in their Circle and exactly what each person can see, such as session attendance, a short weekly summary in their own words, messages and visit bookings. They can change it at any time. What's said in therapy stays private.
They don't want help yet. Can I still talk to you?
Yes. You can enquire for a loved one or call (07) 2111 8100 to talk it through. Family Drug Support is also there for you 24/7 on 1300 368 186.
Can families be part of the therapy?
When your loved one agrees, our psychologists can bring family into the work, on site or by video. It's a safe place to repair trust, talk about what's changed and plan for home.
Is there support just for me?
Yes, and you don't have to wait for anyone else to start. Family Drug Support 1300 368 186, Lifeline 13 11 14 and Adis 1800 177 833 all support families. Read our page for families.
Legal referrals
Do you take clients on bail, parole or a court order?
Yes. We offer priority admissions for bail, parole, sentencing and diversion. When a hearing or release date is close, we fast-track the assessment and, when a bed is free, the admission. We can assess clients in custody or in the community. Information for lawyers.
Can you provide a letter of acceptance for the court?
Yes. We provide formal admission documents and a treatment letter for the bail or parole submission, confirming the program, start date and supervision. Tell us the date you're working to, and we'll tell you when the letter can be ready.
Will you report to the court or parole?
With the client's consent, we provide written progress and attendance reports for the court, probation and parole, or legal representatives. On completion, we provide a discharge summary and an aftercare plan.
How long are court-related programs?
Usually 30 to 90 days in the Reedy Creek residential program, followed where it helps by step-down to the transition house.
After you leave
What happens when the stay ends?
Your aftercare plan starts on day one, so leaving is a step down, not a cliff. Depending on what you need, that might be the transition house, outpatient support with therapy, groups and coaching around work and family, and staying in touch with the Sapphire community.
What is the transition house?
A separate, supported house on the water for the weeks after a residential stay. You keep your own routine, cook for yourself and keep seeing your counsellor by telehealth or in person while you find your feet with work or study. It's $15,000. What that covers, and its GST: included.
What if things get hard again?
That can be part of recovery, and it doesn't undo the work you've done. Use your relapse-prevention plan and contact us on (07) 2111 8100. If you're in danger or thinking about suicide, call 000 or Lifeline on 13 11 14 straight away.
Privacy
Will anyone know I contacted you?
Not from us. With discreet mode, our texts and emails come from "S. Health" and never mention rehab or recovery. We contact you only the way and at the time you choose, and we only leave a voicemail if you say that's OK.
Who can see my information?
Only the people caring for you. We ask for your consent before collecting health information and use it only for your care. It's stored in Australia and encrypted. Families and others see nothing unless you share it through Sapphire Circle. You can ask to see or correct what we hold about you. How information is handled.
Would you ever share it without my consent?
Only when the law requires it, for example to prevent a serious threat to someone's life, health or safety. If that happens, we'll tell you where we can. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
